Officially posted on Google’s product forums and showing a temporarily unavailable message-Google’s map editing tool-Map Maker has been taken down for a while-till an update on May 27’. The tool was used by pranksters to create a map edit where a mascot of the Android operating platform was shown pissing on the Apple logo. Though all map edits are manually approved by Google, it was quite surprising that this went through them.
The image went viral a few weeks ago-showing in a map of a place near Rawalpindi, near Pakistan. Google immediately took down the edit and issued an apologetic message-but the recent shutting down of the service is seen as a way to make the system more robust and secure.
